Although it is known as “Fatma’s Hand”, it is called “Hamse Eli” in Arabic. Hamse means five and indicates the number of fingers of a hand. The Hindus called it “Humsa Hand”, and the Jews “Hameş Hand” or “Miryam’s Hand”. The symbol of the hand is Hz. Fatima and Hz. It is the symbol of Mary.

It is especially valuable in North Africa. It was believed that this symbol, which embraces the most spiritual needs of humanity such as strength, abundance and endurance, will protect people against evil deeds as an amulet regardless of its meaning.
